Business Challenges |
A Boston based learning group endeavoring
to improve student learning in grades
pre-K-12, felt the need to bridge the
educational gap with the appropriate
use of technology. The company’s
online learning service combines tools
and curriculum content to enable teachers
help students. The company integrates
instruction, assessment and teacher
training and localizes content to state
and district standards. The company
also allows for customization and personalization
of its content to individual student
and teacher needs. The company draws
from diverse and trusted brands for
content and services including Kinko's,
Houghton Mifflin Company and Sylvan
Ventures.
CTE was hired to deploy the online resource
and facilitate a standards-based learning.
As a leading publisher of educational
materials, the company was well aware
of the ongoing challenges to school
districts and state departments to develop
standardized student assessments that
support and demonstrate a commitment
to high academic achievement. With the
recent shift to standards-based education,
many teachers did not have the tools
and training needed to succeed in the
classroom. |
| Solution |
CTE proposed a Learning
Community Platform that would combine
content and technology to equip educators
with new tools so that they could quickly
identify and address student needs within
a standards-focused educational environment.
The company would create a new web resource
for educational policy, professional
development, classroom-based activity
building, and assessment/data-analysis
functions.
CTE built a complex system that allows
teachers, students, parents and school
administrators to manipulate, customize,
and share educational content in a seamless
and intuitive way. The solution was
designed to be highly flexible and extensible,
delivering new teacher-centered tools
that make the increasingly complex job
of teaching in a standards-focused environment
more manageable.
In building the solution for the learning
group, CTE focused on the following
functional areas: |
| Assessment
Capabilities |
 |
Teachers can create and administer
online tests to students that
would be directly integrated with
grade books, analysis, and evaluation
of student performance |
 |
School administrators are able
to verify that instructional tools
used in the classroom are fulfilling
the school standards |
|
| Standardized
Instructional Content |
 |
All content is aligned to state
standards, and can also align
to specific district guidelines |
 |
Content is customizable for
teaching specific learning types
and groups, such as English as
a Second Language |
|
| Professional
and Student Development |
 |
Students are equipped with
reference materials, research
tools, and supplemental activities
to develop their learning experience; |
 |
Built-in tutorials can enhance
student learning at home; |
 |
Teachers have access to continuing
education classes, videos, and
helpful hints for teaching specific
types of instructional learning. |
|
| Benefits |
| With the help of CTE, the learning
group got a solution that was: |

content
to state and district standards; |
