— Cambridge Technology Enterprises (CTE) Inc., a leader
in Real-Time Event Processing and Decision Management Solutions, is helping
Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, KS; develop content and software
tools to assist emergency management personnel to respond more effectively
to agricultural bio-terrorist events.
The National Agricultural Bio-Security Center (NABC) at the KSU has received
government grant funding for the development and integration of a suite
of dynamic, interactive software tools designed directly to address the
educational, training, and situational awareness requirements of individuals
involved with agriculture, food and public health. Specific solutions
included in the software suite are an interactive agrosecurity screensaver,
a "lessons learned" database that will capture data from federal,
state, and local agrosecurity exercises, and a real-time dashboard powered
by CTE's Protect Hometown America application.
The integration of Protect Hometown America will give the NABC the ability
to aggregate agrosecurity and lessons learned data while filtering, analyzing
and displaying food and agriculture safety and protection content in a
manner that provides valuable, real-time information to agricultural specialists.
The project is called "Situational Competency, Simulations and Lessons
Learned for Food/Agricultural Bioterrorism." The Department of Defense
is funding the project through the Technical Support Working Group of
the Combating Terrorism Technology Support Office.
Speaking on Protect Hometown America, Bhaskar Panigrahi, CEO - CTE Inc
said, "The project will go a long way in developing systems to counter
agro terrorism. We hope to give a very concrete solution that will be
steamed with a powerful real-time processing capability".
The first objective of the project is to scour the nation's emergency
response community for examples of significant lessons it has learned
from various agrosecurity response efforts, including naturally occurring
outbreaks of diseases of plants and production animals, and response exercise
simulations. Once the agricultural bioterrorism lessons are compiled,
the next step is to adapt existing software and technologies to handle
agrosecurity issues and to be used by emergency management personnel at
all levels who need to access such agrosecurity information.
