CTE helps customer migrate ICMS application and improve end user satisfaction

The client is the official cargo handler at all four metropolitan airports in India (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai) and handles all cargo meant for import or export from India.


Challenges

The client was using the Integrated Cargo Management System (ICMS) application, which is designed and developed for managing import, export, disposal and trans-shipment (TP) operations for different locations. The system covers all aspects of cargo handling from the time it is received by the client to the time it is handed over to agents/airlines, including billing for all cargo-related activities. But the application was installed on client-server architecture and, due to performance reasons, the client had not connected some of the features of the ICMS application. Cargo handling agents were required to appear at the client’s premises for processing payment transactions. Our client was looking at alternate solutions to improve the performance and efficiency of the current system.


Solution

Because the client was using client-server architecture and older versions of Oracle Forms, Reports, and Database, many of the features in the ICMS could not be used. CTE suggested migrating from the older Oracle applications to the latest Oracle Application Server 10g (Three Tier) to centralize the application deployment. At the same time, CTE suggested no change in the business logic and ICMS applications, which preserved the client’s earlier investment. With this migration, cargo agents could connect through extranet to the ICMS application to perform the activities on the browsers and all of the features of the ICMS—including EDI connectivity and web connectivity—could be used effectively.

With CTE’s expertise, the switchover from the older to the new environment was carried out smoothly, seamlessly, on time, and on budget. Because the business logic was not changed, the client saved the effort and the costs of re-training and re-learning.
